State of Oregon Honored for Accela-Based Statewide e-Permitting Website
Included in Center for Digital Government's 2011 Digital Government Awards Program

(firmenpresse) - SAN RAMON, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/20/11 -- extends its congratulations to the State of Oregon for the recognition and award the state's e-permitting website has received from the , as part of the 2011 Digital Government Achievement Awards program. Powered by e-government software, the website was honored with the "Government to Business Award," presented at a dinner ceremony held in Hollywood, Calif., on Sept. 16.
BuildingPermits.Oregon.gov is the nation's first statewide, electronic building permits system. Administered by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services' (DCBS) Building Codes Division, the site serves as a "one-stop shop" for building department permits and services from multiple cities and counties across the state -- enabling construction projects to move more quickly and efficiently, and contractors to save time and money.
Online permits are available from 34 jurisdictions, covering nearly 60 percent of the state's population, and more than 90,000 permit applications have been processed since the site's launch. Oregon's goal is to provide 24/7 access for customers to apply for, pay, and receive building permits anywhere in the state. Six jurisdictions also offer a full array of building department services, including electronic plan review and online inspection scheduling.
"Oregon has demonstrated the kind of vision, commitment and innovation that e-government is all about," said Darrell Lewis, Vice President of Product Management at Accela. "DCBS is offering the intuitive, transparent services that business and the public want, and the cost-effective, cloud-based, customizable model that local governments need."
Accela Automation is a web- and cloud-based enterprise application that helps agencies provide a more citizen-centric, performance-based government. DCBS deployed Accela Automation in 2009 as the back-end "cloud" for its multi-jurisdiction, e-permitting portal. The Accela cloud is designed to connect different systems and users across departments and jurisdictions; provide a personalized and easy-to-use interface for accessing information; adapt and scale easily to support expanding long-term needs; and enhance public access and self-service. As a result, local Oregon governments can link to the State's e-permits website or build their own Accela Automation sites, securing GSA-level rates through the State's broad contract with Accela.
The DCBS site's advanced functionality also allows customers to determine which permits are required in different jurisdictions, to apply and pay for them in a single "shopping cart," and to access a list of their permits and authorizations at any time.
