State of Oregon Honored for Accela-Based Statewide e-Permitting Website

Powered by e-government software, the website was honored with the "Government to Business Award," presented at a dinner ceremony held in Hollywood, Calif., on Sept. 16.
BuildingPermits.Oregon.gov is the nation's first statewide, electronic building permits system. Administered by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services' (DCBS) Building Codes Division, the site serves as a "one-stop shop" for building department permits and services from multiple cities and counties across the state -- enabling construction projects to move more quickly and efficiently, and contractors to save time and money.
Online permits are available from 34 jurisdictions, covering nearly 60 percent of the state's population, and more than 90,000 permit applications have been processed since the site's launch. Oregon's goal is to provide 24/7 access for customers to apply for, pay, and receive building permits anywhere in the state. Six jurisdictions also offer a full array of building department services, including electronic plan review and online inspection scheduling.

DCBS deployed Accela Automation in 2009 as the back-end "cloud" for its multi-jurisdiction, e-permitting portal. As a result, local Oregon governments can link to the State's e-permits website or build their own Accela Automation sites, securing GSA-level rates through the State's broad contract with Accela.
The DCBS site's advanced functionality also allows customers to determine which permits are required in different jurisdictions, to apply and pay for them in a single "shopping cart," and to access a list of their permits and authorizations at any time.
