Professional salt and electrolyte supply for athletes - Made in Germany

The longer the strain and the greater the sweat loss, the more important it is to maintain the salt and electrolyte levels in the blood. With SALTOLYTE "It's running e.K." presents for the first time appropriate food supplements on the market, which are completely manufactured in Germany.

(firmenpresse) - The changing times have also hit the sports industry hard. Corona crisis, lockdown, event cancellations, transport problems, Ukraine war, shortage of raw materials, inflation, euro weakness, energy crisis - all this has made graduate sports economist Klaus Blessing, former Hawaii Ironman, marathon runner and owner of the wholesale company It's running e.K. for more than 25 years, think again.
Almost all suppliers have had to increase prices, and this has had a particularly drastic effect on the SaltStick brand he distributes. Due to the import from the USA, which was only possible by air freight, additional freight and customs costs of 25-30% were added and therefore competitive consumer prices could no longer be offered.
It was time for Plan B. He remembered a then fledgling nutritional supplement manufacturer who had supported him with products during his triathlon career and together they began to implement the project.
The goal was: better, cheaper, more flexible - Made in Germany!
The brand name was quickly found: SALTOLYTE, i.e. the composition of SALT and ElectrOLYTE.
He had plenty of experience with the legal requirements, having cleared numerous administrative hurdles for SaltStick since 2006 and fought out numerous disputes with customs offices, shipping companies, laboratories and food inspection authorities.
During all this time-consuming research work, he also came across an interesting article that pointed the way to even better products.
As early as 1992, Friedrich Reuss (Department of Applied Physiology and Sports Medicine, University of Ulm) summarized the study situation in his article "Electrolyte and Fluid Substitution in Athletes in the Training and Competition Phase" in Ernährungsumschau-39, explained it clearly and drew interesting conclusions.
On the one hand, he supports SaltStick's proclaimed sweat loss rates of the most important electrolytes sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, but also points out the importance of further findings:

1. The decisive magnesium concentration in plasma decreases under stress much more than it corresponds to the magnesium loss in sweat and urine, because magnesium is diverted to erythrocytes under stress. Conclusion: Magnesium intake should be much higher than the sweat loss rate would suggest.
2. In addition to electrolytes, the trace elements iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) are also excreted in sweat to a significant extent and, given their importance for oxygen transport, the immune system, protein synthesis and fatty acid metabolism, should definitely be substituted during exercise.
Consequently, the formulations of SALTOLYTE capsules have been adapted in that the magnesium content has been increased and the trace elements iron and zinc have been added without significant losses in the other minerals.
In the case of the chewable tablets, on the other hand, only marginal changes have been made to the formulation and, according to initial feedback, it has been possible to improve the taste even further.
The fact that the products can even be offered at a significantly lower price - even though they are manufactured in Germany - proved to be particularly pleasing.
This is also due to savings in packaging by dispensing with oversized cans and other bells and whistles.
What's more, manufacturing close to home makes the company much more flexible in terms of product development, production quantities and logistics.
Finally, Klaus Blessing is particularly pleased to be able to save nonsensical transport routes and costs for climate protection reasons and to be able to offer these products as "Made in Germany".
