Tignes Top 3: What’s Not to Love?
Book your flights and pack your bags for a stay in a catered chalet! Tignes has it all:
high-altitude skiing, great accommodation and even a glacier!
(firmenpresse) - Tignes, a fantastic ski resort in the French Alps, certainly gives visitors a lot to love.
Situated at high altitude in the beautiful Tarentaise Valley, it comprises five separate
villages – Le Lavachet, Le Lac, Val Claret, Les Boisses/Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières, which you
can easily get between via a free shuttle bus (or under your own ski-steam). A great deal of the
terrain is above 2,100m, making it a fabulous snow-sure destination with an extended season.
If you’ve never considered Tignes before, it’s time to do a little investigation – because there
are plenty of good reasons it’s become one of the most popular places in the Alps. It’s got
unbeatable skiing, affordable accommodation, and a very lofty cherry on top – the magnificent
Grand Motte glacier.
Below are the top three reasons you’ll fall in love with the resort.
Superb Accommodation
Whatever your budget, there’s great accommodation to be had here, and its accessibility and
affordability make it particularly popular with families and young people looking for the
convenience of an apartment or a catered chalet. Tignes may not be considered as beautiful as its
elegant neighbour, Val d’Isere, but it makes up for that with its impressive amenities. Most people
who visit choose either a self-contained apartment or (particularly larger groups) a spacious
catered chalet. Tignes’ main three highest villages – Le Lac, Val Claret and Le Lavachet – are
especially popular.
Outstanding Skiing
Combined with neighbouring Val d’Isere, you’ll have 300km of glorious pistes of varying
technical difficulty and altitude at your disposal. While the area is ideally suited to
intermediate and advanced skiers, there are still plenty of opportunities for beginners – and even
beginner lifts! The vast network comprises a host of green, blue, red and black runs, serviced by
an extensive high-speed chairlift system (78 lifts) and, with the right pass, you’ve got the
freedom of skiing the entire 300 km as you please - with ski-in, ski-out options right from the
door of your catered chalet.
Tignes also has plenty of challenges for those who crave the thrills of the backcountry and
off-piste areas – but you’ll need to employ the services of a guide to ensure safety. In addition,
there’s a snowpark and some freestyle areas if you’re looking to perfect your tricks, and the
resort even offers para-skiing for people with disabilities.
The Grand Motte Glacier
For the ultimate high-altitude skiing experience (even in summer), the 3,656m Grand Motte
Glacier really is an icon of the region. The vision of the soaring snow-covered peak against the
deep azure sky is enough to set any adventurous heart on fire. Accessible via the Perce-Neige
funicular then the rest of the journey by cable car, you’ll be blown away by the spectacular views,
and again by the amazing ski opportunities. You can ski a range of blue, red and black runs and
you might even rub shoulders with ski royalty, as the French national alpine and freestyle ski
teams train on the glacier.
So there it is: now you know how much there is to love, it’s time to book your flights and
organise your catered chalet; Tignes is ready and willing to deliver the goods for your next
Alpine holiday!
