Fortune 500 Food Manufacturer Teams With Sprint and Illume Software to Enhance Driver Safety
(firmenpresse) - NEEDHAM, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/28/11 -- Recognizing the need to enhance the safety of its employees, a Fortune 500 food manufacturer has deployed , industry-leading mobile safety software that holds incoming and outgoing communications while driving on their Sprint-powered Motorola Android-based handsets. The initial deployment includes approximately 1,000 distribution center drivers. The company has configured iZup to block all mobile phone communications while vehicles are in motion with the exception of 911 emergency services.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that in 2009 5,474 people were killed on US roadways in motor vehicle crashes that involved distracted driving. In addition, the office of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) puts responsibility for safeguarding drivers in the hands of the business owner. A recent OSHA publication stated, "Texting while driving puts millions of Americans who drive on the job at risk every day. As a business owner or manager, it's your legal responsibility under the Occupational Safety and Health Act to safeguard drivers at work."
Since 2005 Sprint has worked on behalf of its customers and employees on the issue of distracted driving -- including supporting state legislation banning texting while driving; sponsoring national and local driver safety programs for teenagers and adults; releasing a distracted driving pledge for Sprint customers and employees; and developing a robust portfolio of distracted driving mobile applications and resources for general and business consumers.
