Minister Fantino: Strengthened Cooperation With Industry Benefits Canadian Forces and All Canadians
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/29/11 -- The Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, today addressed the Canadian Association of Defence and Securities Industries (CADSI), highlighting the Government of Canada's ongoing commitment to strengthening cooperation with Canadian industry. This important relationship helps achieve our mutual objectives of delivering for our Canadian Forces, while at the same time, strengthening Canada's economic prosperity.
"In the last election, Canadians gave our Government a strong mandate to ensure the Canadian Forces have the tools they need to defend Canada's interests both at home and abroad," said Minister Fantino. "We are fully committed to strengthening our delivery of new equipment at the best price for taxpayers, with the best benefits for Canadian companies and workers. Our comprehensive, ongoing approach is a win-win for the Canadian Forces and the Canadian economy."
Consulting and maintaining dialogue with industry is at the centre of the Government of Canada's approach, as seen most recently during August's Industry Consultation Day on the Fixed Wing Search and Rescue replacement project. Not only demonstrating the Government's openness and flexibility to develop solutions, this initiative will help deliver a critical asset that will help save lives. The Government continues to demonstrate results in improving military procurement by working with industry. For example:
In Budget 2011, the Government of Canada committed to building on successes through "a procurement strategy, in consultation with industry, to maximize job creation, support Canadian manufacturing capabilities and innovation, and bolster economic growth in Canada". This plan will support Canada's sovereignty and allow companies to anticipate and position themselves to compete for future requirements and win contracts over the coming two decades.
"Our government's efforts have achieved success in strengthening Canada's sovereignty and economic prosperity, but more remains to be done," said Minister Fantino. "We must continue to work together to drive innovation and position Canadian industry to succeed."
Minister Fantino also highlighted several ongoing priorities to deliver modern, reliable and effective equipment to fulfill various Canadian Forces requirements. These projects that offer Canadian companies and workers significant economic benefit include the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy, Fixed Wing Search and Rescue and our ongoing participation in the Joint Strike Fighter Program.
