Wärtsilä becomes exclusive supplier of bilge water treatment units to
Stolt Tankers
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade & Technical press release, 20 October2009Wärtsilä and Stolt Tankers B.V. have signed an agreement wherebyWärtsilä becomes the exclusive supplier of bilge water treatmentunits to the Stolt-Nielsen group. The agreement ensures thatnewbuildings, and retrofits of existing Stolt vessels, will be fittedwith Wärtsilä Senitec M-series bilge water treatment units andWärtsilä Senitec BilgeGuard(TM) bilge discharge monitoring systems. The high treatment capacity and safety of operation, that arefeatures of the Wärtsilä Senitec units, were instrumental factors inthe decision. By installing Wärtsilä Senitec bilge water treatmentsystems, the amount of bilge water to be disposed ashore can bereduced by as much as 95 per cent, a level of treatment that isalmost unprecedented on the market. Wärtsilä bilge and oily watertreatment units are certified according to the latest IMO and USCoast Guard regulations."We believe that continuous improvement leads to lean, agileprocesses and excellence in general. Stolt strives to select partnerswho display a similar philosophy. We recognized the excellence ofcontinuous improvement in the Senitec unit, which is clearly themarket's most evolved unit," says Rob Scharff, General Manager ofPurchasing and Logistics at Stolt Tankers B.V.The Wärtsilä Senitec M-series range encompasses the M500, M1000 andM2500 bilge water treatment units, capable of treating 0.5 to 2.5m3of oily water per hour respectively. All units guarantee that the oilcontent in the treated water will be no more than 15 ppm (parts permillion), with real case levels being below 1 ppm during continuousoperation. Together with the Wärtsilä's Solidpac add-on, the unitscan reduce the amount of bilge water for disposal ashore by as muchas 95 percent, thus minimizing the environmental impact andsignificantly lowering disposal costs. The Wärtsilä Senitec BilgeGuard(TM) is a bilge discharge monitoringsystem that constantly monitors and records the quantity of waterbeing discharged overboard, as well as its oil content, and the timeand location of the vessel. Should the effluent, for any reason, contain an oil level exceeding the set limit, the flow is rerouted tothe sludge tank. The system provides both a safety net, and a meansof documenting what and where discharges have been made. All equipment from Wärtsilä's water treatment product line isdesigned and built by Wärtsilä in Göteborg, Sweden.Related material:Related information on www.wartsila.com: Sludge and bilge watercleaning for marinePress Release, 2 June, 2008: Senitec acquisition complete with fullintegration into WärtsiläPress Release, 28 November, 2008Wärtsilä's Senitec bilge water system received US Coast GuardApproval - US market open for this environmentally sound systemMore information and full details on the full range of Wärtsilä oilywater separation equipment can be obtained by visiting:www.wartsila.com/senitecLink to a picture can be found at the end of this release.Caption: Wärtsilä Senitec M-series bilge water treatment unit.Welcome to meet us at Europort Maritime exhibition in Rotterdam, theNetherlands, 3-6 November on stand number 1.301!Media contact:Ms Marit Holmlund-SundSenior Manager, PR and Marketing CommunicationsWärtsilä CorporationDirect tel: +358 10 709 1439Direct fax: +358 10 709 1425e-mail: marit.holmlund-sund(at)wartsila.comInternet: www.wartsila.comAbout Stolt Tankers B.V.Stolt Tankers B.V. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Stolt-NielsenS.A., one of the world's leading providers of transportation servicesfor bulk liquid chemicals, edible oils, acids, and other specialtyliquids.
