Transmode extends Multi-Service Muxponder technology to 10G for
high-capacity Mobile Backhaul and NG
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Supercomm, Chicago and Stockholm, Sweden - 20th October 2009 -Transmode, a leading provider of optical networking solutions, todayannounced the launch of its next generation 10G Multi-ServiceMuxponder targeted for Mobile Backhaul and other Next GenerationNetwork (NGN) migration applications.The new 10G Multi-Service Muxponder (MS-MXP/10G) is ideally suited toboth mobile backhaul applications and NGN migration projects withinfixed networks where both legacy TDM traffic is required in parallelwith Ethernet traffic. The MS-MXP/10G allows operators toeconomically and flexibly transport multiple services on the same 10Gwavelength. All services are transported totally transparently,including network synchronization, which simplifies the networkstructure and OAM procedures.The MS-MXP/10G extends Transmode's existing and widely deployedIntelligent WDM (iWDM(TM)) Multi-Service technology to 10 Gbit/s ofcapacity and is part of Transmode's successful TM-Series. TheMulti-Service technology is used in Transmode's recently announcedMulti-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution for E1/T1 and Ethernet trafficand the existing 4G Multi-Service Muxponder for SDH/SONET, Ethernetand Fibre Channel traffic.For high capacity mobile backhaul applications in particular, theMS-MXP/10G's support for the Synchronous Ethernet standards and thetransparent transport of the Timing-over-Packet standards allows theoperator complete flexibility as they migrate to Ethernet transportfor HSPA data offload, LTE and 4G backhaul.Available in December 2009 as part of the TM-Series Release 14 andalready committed to customer trials, the MS-MXP/10G supports a mixof SDH/SONET, Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel traffic plus theoutput of lower speed 2.5G and 4G Transmode Muxponders. The plug-inunit has 10 SFP-based client ports and duplicated 10G XFP-based lineports allowing optional line protection. The line signal is codedwith Forward Error Correction (FEC) to provide transmissionperformance in metro, regional and long haul applications. TheMS-MXP/10G is also available in a version with a fixed/tunableinterface, a higher grade line coding, Enhanced FEC (EFEC) and a highperformance receiver for longer reach (1000+ km) applications.Release 14 also includes new DWDM tunable XFPs enabling the XFP-basedMS-MXP/10G and all other XFP-based Transmode 10G plug in units tosupport tunable functionality across 80 DWDM wavelengths.While the plug-in units are fundamentally Layer 1 Muxponders, theyalso support Layer 2 Awareness features on Ethernet client ports,such as Ethernet utilization reporting and the injection/extractionof management VLANs to enable management of remote VLAN manageddevices, such as Transmode's CPE Ethernet Demarcation or EthernetMuxponders (EMXP) units."These two new Multi-Service Muxponders are important additions tothe TM-Series and are ideally suited to mobile backhaul and NGNmigration applications due to their hybrid transport capabilities,"said Sten Nordell, Transmode's Chief Technology Officer. "Bothapplications require support for legacy TDM traffic while allowingthe operator to simply add lower cost Ethernet capacity to hit thecost levels required to provide attractive and still profitableservices to their end customers.
