Transmode's Mobile Backhaul Solution creates wholesale opportunities
for US Carriers
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Stockholm, Sweden - 20th October 2009 - Transmode, a leading providerof optical networking solutions, will present its new Multi-ServiceMobile Backhaul Solution for the first time in the US - at bothSupercomm (Chicago, October 21-23) and SCTE Cable Tec Expo (Denver,October 28-30).The Multi-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution is a unique WDM over fibersolution providing "hybrid" native support of both TDM and Ethernettraffic and supports multiple synchronization streams per wavelength. It therefore enables a smooth migration to Ethernet or all-IPbackhaul networks and cost effective support of 3G and LTE multimediaservice rollouts. The presentation of the Multi-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution's tothe US market is intended to generate interest from the MSOs as wellas from ILECs, CLECs and IOCs. The solution is particularlyinteresting as it supports wholesale services. Specifically itsupports multiple synchronization signals, enabling backhaul ofmultiple wireless technologies and most importantly, multipleoperators on the same fiber infrastructure."Transmode has already enjoyed much success in the US including ourrecent big win at KDL," commented Paul Harrison, the company'srecently appointed VP of Sales for North America. "Besides offeringan ideal solution for mobile operators seeking to extend fiber totheir cell sites, the new Multi-Service Backhaul Solution will alsoempower MSOs and other US Carriers that provide fiber access on awholesale basis."The Multi-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution provides a fiber-basedbackhaul that will help carriers to overcome synchronization andbandwidth problems so they can rapidly roll out new 3G, LTE-based and4G services. The ability to maintain multiple synchronization signalsto the cell sites in a mobile network allows the Carrier tosimultaneously support a mix of 2G (TDM), 3G (ATM/Ethernet) andLTE/4G (Ethernet) radio base station equipment as well as legacy T1,FE/GE and OC-3 for 1 or more wireless operators. It will also come ina hardened version that meets the requirements connected to harshenvironmental conditions. The new solution's Intelligent WDM (iWDMTM) multi-servicecharacteristics enable a gradual migration and the possibility to doselected capacity upgrades through LTE in dense areas withoutaffecting the core network architecture. It also makes it equallywell suited to support traditional fixed network services and ensuresthat it works well in a combined microwave/fiber network.Sten Nordell, Transmode's Chief Technology Officer, added "Ourinitial discussions with mobile/fixed operators and network operatorsthat offer wholesale services to mobile operators have been veryencouraging. Pushing WDM technology out to the cell site is thelogical extension of our Multi-Service technology. By using our iWDMapproach customers will enjoy a unique solution that addresses themultiple synchronization domains issue that other solutions justcan't address."About TransmodeTransmode is a leading provider of optical networking solutions fortransport of data, voice and video traffic, based on CWDM and DWDMtechnology (Coarse/Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing).Transmode's unique Intelligent WDM (iWDMTM) approach has lead towidespread deployment of over 10000 systems in a customer baseconsisting of more than 250 fixed and mobile network operators, service providers, large enterprises and public institutions acrossEurope, the Americas and Asia.Transmode's comprehensive product portfolio and strong globalorganization enable our customers to grow the capacity and to improveservice level of their regional, metro and metro access networks, ona cost-efficient basis without compromising on functionality. For additional information about Transmode, please visitwww.transmode.comFor more information please contact:Ola Elmeland, Vice President Marketing &CommunicationsTransmode Systems ABTelephone: +46 8 506 882 71Email: ola.elmeland(at)transmode.comThis announcement was originally distributed by Hugin.
