USC Educator and Addiction Medicine Pioneer Dr. Akikur Mohammad Cautions Public About Dangers of At-Home Alcohol Detox

Dr. Mohammad said, "There is nothing more dangerous and irresponsible than an individual attempting to detox from alcohol without proper medical supervision. Based on the various levels of abuse, every person is different when it comes to alcohol detox; however, regardless of the variables involved, one thing is certain, if an individual makes the careless decision to abuse without proper medical attention, irreversible physical damage and/or death are plausible outcomes." It's not enough to be happy that your loved one has decided to stop drinking, the individual needs to detox properly or they run the risk of death -- it is that simple."
