New trends in mailing - Bizerba at the postal and mailing exhibition Post-Expo 2011 in Stuttgart (hall 1, booth 4072)

(firmenpresse) - Balingen/Stuttgart, 21 September 2011 – At the Post-Expo 2011, the international postal, express and mailing industry exhibition, which will take place in Stuttgart from 27 to 29 September 2011, Bizerba will present the DWS static 520, with which parcel services can identify the barcode, volume and weight of packages in just one step. Additionally, its bigger brother, the DWS Parcel Pilot, as well as the gravity-defying weighing scale CWL-Eco will be presented on this occasion.
Save space and time
With the DWS 510/520 Static, barcode, volume and weight can be identified in one step. “This system has been developed for courier, express and parcel service providers with a throughput of up to 500 packages per hour“, explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director Industry Solutions at Bizerba. “As it combines basic operational steps, you can save a lot of space and time.”
The DWS 510/520 Static consists of a static weighing scale, a hand-held scanner, with which the operator identifies the package by means of the barcode, and a volume measuring system (VMS), which measures the height, length and width by means of a volume scanner and then calculates the volume. “This way, you can calculate shipping charges based on the volume weight, use transport vehicles to their full capacity and quickly find a suitable storage place for interim storage.”
Big Brother: the Parcel Pilot with RFID
The DWS system Parcel Pilot is fully automatic and has already been used successfully by European parcel and express services. This is how it works: a barcode scanner identifies the product on the conveyor, the Bizerba weighing scale CWL-Eco weighs it practically while it is being transported at up to 2.7m/s. The VMS measures height, length and width of the package and calculates its volume.
With the controls of the system, the data can also be transmitted to a package labelling machine type GLM-L. This machine attaches the shipping label to the parcel. Conzelmann: „Even RFID is possible. The Bizerba label factory in Bochum produces the corresponding smart labels, on which all data can be stored electronically“.
The CWL-Eco defies gravity
As for the shipping of goods, precision, flexibility and speed are of the essence, Bizerba developed the weighing scale CWL-Eco. It operates with the fail-safe string technology, a unique weighing system. It measures mass instead of weight by comparing the frequency of two swinging strings. Conzelmann: „The CWL-Eco only has to be calibrated once and can then be used at any desired location around the world, whether near the North Pole or the equator, without having to take into account the differences in gravity.“
The weighing machine is equipped with a data memory, which can be officially calibrated, and reaches a conveying speed of 2.7 metres per second. In addition, it can pass gradients of up to 15 degrees. „Due to various conveyor dimensions and interfaces, it can be easily integrated in parcel and sorting systems.”
