WeCar Provides Downtown Boise Members With Efficient, Affordable, Sustainable Transportation Alternative

(firmenpresse) - BOISE, ID -- (Marketwire) -- 10/03/11 -- and the Downtown Boise Association, in partnership with the City of Boise, Capital City Development and The Car Park, will provide car sharing in downtown Boise through . WeCar is a membership-based, automated car rental option that offers a sustainable and efficient alternative to the Boise community. Membership is open and is aimed at offering residents, workers and businesses a convenient and affordable transportation option.

The program will start with two vehicles -- a Jeep Compass and a Nissan Cube. They are centrally parked at Boise City Hall on Capitol Boulevard and across from the State House at Eighth and Jefferson Street. Based on the growth of the program and usage patterns, Enterprise anticipates more vehicles could be added at convenient locations throughout downtown.

"Offering residents and downtown workers in Boise a convenient and efficient transportation option through WeCar makes using other methods of day-to-day commuting a more viable option," said Kâren Sander, executive director, Downtown Boise Association.

Membership is open to all licensed drivers 21 years of age and older who meet the terms and conditions of use of the program. Additionally, the program -- from application to reservation -- is totally automated and online at .

WeCar offers around-the-clock access to hourly, daily and overnight rentals. Members reserve a vehicle online, then access the vehicle using a membership card and return it to the same location. Fuel and basic vehicle physical damage and state required liability protection are included in the standard rate plan.

WeCar programs are supported by the extensive Enterprise Rent-A-Car neighborhood network of more than located within 15 miles of 90 percent of the U.S. population. WeCar is a natural extension of the local car rental service Enterprise pioneered and continues to provide. In fact, well before it launched its car-sharing program, Enterprise rented to drivers in large urban centers who needed a vehicle for an hour, a day or a week. Enterprise already has seven locations in the Treasure Valley region.

For businesses, WeCar can reduce fleet costs and overall emissions while also supporting their sustainability initiatives. WeCar can also complement urban communities' sustainability programs and can help reduce local emissions, traffic congestion and parking congestion in urban areas.

"Based on our experience with car sharing, we anticipate there will be businesses and employees in downtown Boise who are interested in developing a program of their own," said Ryan Johnson, assistant vice president, WeCar and Rideshare for Enterprise. "We've created similar programs in other markets, and we look forward to serving Boise as well. We also recognize the needs that students and residents have for alternative transportation in the Boise area, and WeCar is a positive step toward satisfying that demand."

In addition to downtown residents and employees, car sharing is a solution for local college students who do not have a car on campus or do not want to deal with the hassles and expense of parking. For instance, Brigham Young University-Idaho just launched a WeCar campus program for its students last month.

WeCar operates car-sharing programs throughout the United States and is currently providing programs for corporate campuses, universities and municipal governments in 24 states. WeCar programs are in place on approximately 50 college campuses.
