Experts discuss opportunities and challenges for companies in the security and defence sector

Review of the event ‘Synergies at the Turn of an Era’ at TechBase Regensburg

(firmenpresse) - On 7 April 2025, the top-class event ‘Security and Defence at the Turn of an Era’ took place at TechBase Regensburg. The event brought together numerous companies, experts and decision-makers to shed light on the business opportunities, requirements and risks arising from the current geopolitical and technological changes.

The welcome speech was given by Toni Lautenschläger, Head of the Office for Economy and Science of the City of Regensburg, who emphasised the importance of the security and defence industry (SVI) for the regional economy. In an inspiring video message, Tobias Gotthardt, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, emphasised the need for close cooperation to master the entrepreneurial opportunities and risks arising from the current geopolitical and technological changes. ‘In the spirit of ‘Connecting the dots’, the networking of stakeholders is of central importance. Only through close cooperation between companies, the federal government and the areas of civil defence, civil protection and critical infrastructures can we successfully overcome the challenges of our time,’ emphasised Uwe Pfeil, Cluster Manager of the Cluster Mobility & Logistics.

A central highlight of the event was the panel discussion entitled ‘Networked thinking about security: Industry, society and their common challenges’. Moderated by Sven Rochier, Project Manager for Security and Defence at Bayern Innovativ GmbH, experts such as Dr.-Ing. Armin Engstle from AVL Software and Functions GmbH, Dr Matthias Kampmann from IT-Sicherheitscluster e.V., Prof. Dr. Markus Bresinsky from Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg and Stephan K. Fischer from FISCHER LICHT & METALL GmbH & Co.KG spoke about the challenges and opportunities arising from the networking of industry and society.

The event offered the more than 150 participants not only valuable insights into new business opportunities within SVI, but also a platform for regional networking in the field of security and defence technologies. The parallel forums in the afternoon enabled participants to discuss specific topics in depth and develop individual strategies.

The event was a complete success and laid the foundation for future cooperation and initiatives in the field of security and defence technologies.
