Dr. George Arnold was appointed National Coordinator for (NIST) in April 2009. He is responsible for leading the development of standards underpinning the nation's Smart Grid and also co-chairs the White House National Science and Technology Council's Smart Grid policy subcommittee.

The SGIL is the industry's first and only independent test facility offering impartial verification of device interoperability. KEMA's state-of-the-art lab will help utilities and vendors validate smart grid technology, understand interoperability standards, while integrating new technologies with existing assets. The SGIL will play an integral role in advancing the industry's various testing standards, cutting-edge technologies, and the creation of a national smart grid interoperability framework.
The grand opening will allow attendees to browse demonstrations by subject matter experts and network with KEMA management, industry stakeholders, and featured guest speakers discussing the importance of interoperability for the future grid.
