Oyaco Products Inc.: New Gro-clock Product Encourages Children to Sleep In
Kids and parents need more sleep

(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/04/11 -- Prepare yourselves parents: you may just get to sleep in next weekend. A new product from UK-based baby products innovator empowers the early risers in your home to stay in bed just a little longer, enabling everyone in the family to get the much-needed rest they need.
Instead of a typical clock face, The sleep clock uses fun images of the stars and sun to communicate when to go back to sleep and when it's time to get up. Parents set the clock to display a cheerful smiley sun at progressively later times of morning, training the child to get up only once they "see the sun". The clock, which functions as a sleep trainer, comes with a beautifully illustrated book, which helps to encourage children to stay in bed longer. The clock also features an optional digital clock display to accompany the stars to sun countdown.
According to Narda Simpson, president of , the Canadian distributor of the , sleep tends to be THE hot issue for parents, from newborn on up. "Toddlers and preschoolers have their own set of sleep issues, one of which is getting up ridiculously early," she explained, "often leading to the child and others in the home not getting the rest they need to be at their best during the day."
The is designed to teach young children good sleep habits such as when it's time to go to bed and when it's time to get up, with an end goal to ensure they and their parents get the recommended number of hours of sleep.
Research supports the premise that kids just don't get enough sleep. A by the National Sleep Foundation showed that children between ages 12 months and six years get, on average, only 9.7 hours of sleep every night, counter to the recommended 11 to 14. reports that this has a trickle-down effect; parents with at least two children get 25 minutes less sleep every night than their childless counterparts.
Research also shows that there are consequences to this lack of sleep. Results from a by the University of Alabama at Birmingham last month showed that sleep deprivation negatively effects children's memory, judgment, attention span, emotional stability and even immunity.
"It's no wonder sleep products are so in demand by parents across Canada," said Simpson. carries over half a dozen products directly related to sleep including the , (to help parents create the optimal room temperature for baby, and the (a sleep sac designed to keep baby safe and warm all night long without a tangle of blankets).
The and other mentioned here are available across Canada at retailers and directly from at oyaco.com.
