Oracle Outlines Plans to Move Java Forward at JavaOne Strategy Keynote
Highlights Java Technology Innovation and Details Roadmap of Future Java Platform Advancements

During the JavaOne 2011 strategy keynote, Hasan Rizvi, senior vice president, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Java, along with Adam Messinger, vice president of Development, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Cameron Purdy, vice president, Development, Oracle, outlined plans for the future of the Java platform and showcased product demonstrations illustrating the latest Java technology innovations.
Rob Benson, Director of Runtime Systems at Twitter, announced that Twitter has just joined both the OpenJDK Community, as well as the Java Community Process (JCP). Twitter will be collaborating with Oracle and the other members of the JCP and the OpenJDK Community to help evolve the Java platform.
IBM, Intel and Red Hat, as well as ARM, GetJar and Harris IT Systems, also appeared on stage to demonstrate their ongoing support for Java technology.

Oracle announced plans for advancing Java SE with a roadmap for Mac OS X releases and an update on Java SE 8.
Plans for the next version of Java SE 8 are moving forward and Oracle is announcing a revised roadmap for a release with expanded scope, with availability expected in summer 2013.
Oracle also announced plans to improve the interoperability between HTML5 and Java technology in order to simplify the development of rich client/server interaction for cloud based applications.

Oracle announced availability of JavaFX 2.0, an advanced Java user interface (UI) platform for enterprise business applications and the next step in the evolution of Java as a premier rich client platform.
Oracle also announced intent to submit a proposal to open source the JavaFX platform as a new project within the OpenJDK Community.

Oracle outlined plans for the evolution of Java ME through the submission of new Java Specification Requests (JSRs) to the (JCP).
The first component planned for submission is an update to the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) virtual machine and library specifications to enable better alignment with Java Development Kit (JDK) 7.

Java EE continues to be hugely popular with increasing developer adoption and over 40 million downloads of Java EE components, including .
Java EE 7, the next generation of Java EE, is well underway with 10 active Java Specification Requests (JSRs) being worked on through the JCP by over 20 different participating companies and represented by hundreds of engineers.
Java EE 7 will further enhance the Java EE platform for Cloud environments with support for features such as multi-tenancy and elasticity (horizontal scaling).

Extending the support for Java standards, 7.1 Beta provides support for JavaFX 2.0, enabling the full compile, debug and profile development cycle for JavaFX 2.0 applications.
The NetBeans IDE now has more than one million active users with developers increasingly selecting the NetBeans IDE to rapidly create desktop, Web, and mobile applications using the Java platform, as well as with PHP, JavaScript and Ajax, and C/C++.
