A founding and active member of "VISION 2020: The Right to Sight", cbm is a world leader in preventing and curing blindness. Vision 2020 is the global initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners aiming at dramatically reducing avoidable blindness by the year 2020.
According to WHO, about 284 million people in our world are visually impaired and 39 million of these people are blind. 90% of the world's visually impaired population live in developing countries.
It's estimated 80% of all visual impairments can be avoided or cured. In low-income countries, cataracts remain the leading cause of blindness.
