Minister Raitt Congratulates OC Transpo and the Amalgamated Transit Union for Extending Collective Agreement

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/20/11 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today congratulated OC Transpo and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279 for extending the existing collective agreement for a period of one year.

"I commend both OC Transpo and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279 for coming to an agreement, which will ensure labour stability," said Minister Raitt. "I hope both parties build from this stepping stone and work together in developing a long-term collective agreement."

The previous collective agreement, covering OC Transpo's approximately 2 500 bus drivers, mechanics and dispatchers, expired in March 2011. The one-year contract extension, until March 2012, will reinsure users that no work stoppage will occur this winter.
