River City Round Up Spurs Visitors on to Family Fun Festivities

(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/03/11 -- It's ten days of heart pounding action as rides into November 4 to 13. The popular city-wide festival celebrates Edmonton's heritage in an exciting mix of agriculture and culture.
There are plenty of can't-miss activities to brand your calendars with, including the on Friday, November 4, from 11:30 to 1:00 PM, at Scotia Place, 10060 Jasper Avenue. Country crooners will love the Country Karaoke Contest Final taking place on November 6 at Overtime Boiler and Taproom in Sherwood Park.
The officially launches the festival on Saturday, November 5 at 10 AM at the Downtown Farmers' Market in City Hall. The party then moves to Sir Winston Churchill Square for an entire day of family fun activities including a caravan of covered wagons and outriders circling the square in a one-of-a-kind welcome.
The Kick-Off's Kids Tent features storytelling, games, crafts, roving entertainers, and on site animals to learn about up close. The Warm Up Tent offers up country movies and music, and main stage action includes performances throughout the day from several young, local talents as well as legendary country greats such as two-time CCMA nominee, . Yet more entertainment includes working dog competitions, square dancing, aboriginal dancers, and a host of other activities. The opening celebrations will finish with a fireworks display at 6:30 PM.
River City Round Up's two signature events are the blockbuster and . Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) action runs from November 9 to 13 at Rexall Place. "This is the Canadian Championship of Rodeo," says event spokesperson Tamara Fahlman. "It's thrilling! We have the best contestants, the best pick up men and the best stock."
Fans will want to saddle up for CFR activities from bareback riding to steer wrestling to team roping, even dynamic specialty acts during intermissions, and so much more. Bull riding is one of the most dangerous events and fans will be on the edge of their seats as top-rated North American bull riders face a test of nerves with tough bulls. After performances guests are invited to party headquarters at the Buckle where they can enjoy great western hospitality with food, drink, and live music.
To help fans find 'the west within' plenty of entertainment options have been planned to help 'first timers' connect with their inner cowboy or girl, including stock dog competitions, draft horse pulls, and a performance by country music great on Thursday, November 10.
With every CFR ticket sold, patrons will be happy to discover they've corralled a pass to Farmfair at Northland's EXPO Centre. The pass also wrangles visitors admission to the RAM Country Marketplace with over 250 booths featuring leather goods, saddles, apparel, home decor, food, art, and of course all things western.
With its array of western activities throughout Edmonton, River City Round Up will spur visitors on to kick up their heels for the countrified time of their lives.
