Wayne County Deputy CEO Azzam Elder Voluntarily Resigns From Position
Elder Positive About Accomplishments Made During 16-Year Career With County and Looks Forward to New Opportunities in Private Sector
(firmenpresse) - SOUTHFIELD, MI -- (Marketwire) -- 11/03/11 -- Wayne County Deputy CEO , who established several innovative programs for the county during a 16-year career, voluntarily resigned from his position today, effective immediately, after notifying Wayne County Executive with whom he worked for the past nine years.
Elder said he felt it was time to move on to a new chapter in his life. "I never saw myself as having a long-term career in government," said Elder, who graduated magna cum laude from the and who began his career in Wayne County in the Prosecutor's office in 1995. "I am really looking forward to a new chapter in my life and will be considering a number of options -- none of which is expected to be in the public sector."
The innovative programs initiated by Elder have included the or "airport city" developing around Wayne County's Metro and Willow Run airports; , an unique business-incentive program that has resulted in approximately $300-million in investment and many new jobs to Wayne County; the (Second Chance Through Expungement Program) program designed to help one-time, non-violent offenders return to the workplace and become productive members of society; and, the , which is now adopted by the United Way for Southeastern Michigan and helps homeowners in all of southeast Michigan by simple dialing 211 for help. All four programs are among the 20 or more national awards received by the County from the National Association of Counties in 2010 and 2011.
