KONE to modernize the high vertical rise escalators at Ruoholahti metro station in Finland

KONE has been selected by Helsinki City Transport (HKL) to modernize the high
vertical rise escalators at Ruoholahti metro station. Three escalators with a
vertical rise of nearly 30 meters will be fully modernized to ensure the
reliable and safe performance of the equipment for the coming decades. The order
also includes a five-year maintenance contract.
Ruoholahti station is currently the westernmost stop of the Helsinki metro with
approximately 20,000 passengers traveling through daily. Together, HKL and KONE
have already fully modernized the escalators at the Central Railway Station and
Sörnäinen metro stations, and the modernization at Hakaniemi station is near
completion.

The order was booked in Q4 of 2011. The escalators will be modernized one at a
time starting in January 2012 and the project is estimated to be completed by
February 2013.
