Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson (VSCT) Offering Free Community Lecture on Valley Fever in Dogs and Cats on November 30th
(firmenpresse) - TUCSON, AZ -- (Marketwire) -- 11/21/11 -- As part of their monthly Community Pet Lecture Series, VSCT will be hosting a free November 30th lecture from 6 to 7 p.m. on what the pet owner needs to know to keep their dogs and cats safe from Valley Fever. VSCT, in collaboration with the Valley Fever Center for Excellence, supports vital research on Valley Fever in dogs and cats by providing hospital facilities for case evaluations and clinical studies of new treatments and diagnostic tests. As such, VSCT provides the most up to date information and treatment on Valley Fever in Southern Arizona.

Valley Fever is caused by inhaling fungal spores in area soil or dust. Valley Fever is diagnosed much less frequently in cats than in dogs, although because cats tend to hide their illnesses, they usually get much sicker from the disease. Dogs raised from birth in Pima or Maricopa counties have a 28% chance of being infected with Valley Fever by two years of age.
