On 14th September Zell am See-Kaprun is hosting an urban golf event on Schmittenhöhe

(firmenpresse) - Aim carefully, take a big swing, and whoosh! But under no circumstances should you lose sight of your ball! At urban golf, it is a lot trickier to find the small white ball again than at its verdant brother. But there are more differences still: proficiency certificates or green fees don't exist at urban golf. Furthermore it can be played anywhere - you just need room to swing a club. And it is these special locations that have an irrefutable appeal. The organizers of 'Schmitt'n Owi Golf'n' even go one step further: they take urban golf to the top. As an addition to Pinzgau's traditional Farmer's Autumn, the event is scheduled for 14th September on the summit of almost 2,000-metre-high Schmittenhöhe.
Urban golf is derived from the original game of golf and considered the purest and most natural way of playing this game. Already 250 years before the first golf club was founded, Scottish shepherds used to play cross-country picking their targets at random. Also at 'Schmitt'n Owi Golf'n' in Zell am See-Kaprun having fun is what really matters: everyone who feels like taking a club and joining the game is welcome - beginners just like pros who have an itch to get out their drivers and putters off the golfing green.
Already one day before the great event, players can get ready for the tournament against the backdrop of the picturesque Alpine panorama on the two 18-hole championship courses of the region. Furthermore, there is an interesting presentation for all the 'rookies' among you - that's what the beginners in urban golf are called - about the game itself and the necessary equipment. On Sunday morning, during the ascent to the venue aboard Schmittenhöhebahn cable car, the breathtaking view of the Alps makes sure that the participants get in the right mood for the up-coming competition. Once on location, a nine-hole course on the standard piste of Schmittenhöhe waits to be mastered.
'Hole' should not be taken literally here, however. After all, the ball can be hit at any specified target which has not been screwed down. Taking Pinzgau's Farmer's Autumn as a motto, it is mostly farm equipment like a milk can, a wooden barrel, and a water trough that has been turned into 'holes'. The most important thing: staying below a par of 41 strokes. The players accept the challenge in teams of two. Every ten minutes another team enters the course which stretches across a distance of 4,000 metres downhill. Every three holes, players stop for refreshment and taste culinary delights to invigorate their strengths. Meanwhile, spectators can pass the time with events at the supporting programme at the foot of Schmittenhöhe including regional delicacies, music and diversion.
