Imtech: 30 million power electronics contracts for energy and science

The orders are acquired by ImtechContracting, part of Imtech Nederland.René van der Bruggen, CEO Imtech: 'These orders are a good example ofImtech's technological know how and are typical of the breadth of ourservices portfolio with which we are consistently able to wincontracts despite the difficult economic times. And not just in thearea of power electronics, but also upgrading of platform automationon board several naval vessels, providing high-tech solutions for theEuropean pharmaceutical sector, 'green' technology for the renovationof BNP Paribas Fortis' headquarters in Brussels and 'green' datacentres. All of which are sizeable orders (total volume up to nearly145 million euro) in specific market segments. That is the strengthof Imtech's business model.'EnergyFor the new uranium enrichment plant George Besse II Usine Nord ofAreva SET in France, Imtech will supply high-tech converters forpowering the special centrifuges of the enrichment process. ArevaSET, a joint venture partner of Urenco Group, is constructing thissecond uranium enrichment plant in Tricastin near Pierrelatte in thesouth of France. The design of the enrichment plant as well as theImtech solutions are fully in line with the currently built uraniumenrichment plant George Besse II Usine Sud on the same location. Forthis plant Imtech has also delivered the converters. An option forfurther extension is part of the contract.ScienceAt the Helmholtz Centre in Berlin, a scientific institute for neutronscattering, a new high field magnet is under construction. Thismagnet is with a magnetic field strength which is about one milliontimes stronger than the earth's magnetic field, the strongest magnetfor neutron scattering scientific studies in the world. Imtech isresponsible for the delivery of the direct current 20.000 Amps powersupply for this magnet, supplied from the 10 kV public grid up to thecore of the magnet. The project is based on a design and buildcontract. Imtech's scope covers the full range from basic design upto final testing at the magnet's location, including all technologysolutions such as transformers, thyristor converters and awater-cooled busbar system. Imtech covers the design, assembly,testing, construction at site of the converters, including thecomplete installation and commissioning. The duration of the projectexecution will take two years.Imtech was also responsible for the power electronics of the world'slargest particle accelerator at CERN, the European Organization forNuclear Research in Geneva.
