Two Thirds of Respondents Say Cost Has Stopped Them From Getting Extra Protection; Savvy Consumers Joining FreeWarranty.com in Droves

More than 20,000 savvy shoppers have already done so, joining FreeWarranty.com since its official launch in mid-November to get the extra protection they want for free.

Of the 1,005 Americans polled for this survey, cost led as the major factor (66 percent) for why shoppers opt out of extended warranties. More than one-third of respondents (35 percent) have never purchased an extended warranty, and one in five say the aggressive in-store sales pitch turns them off.

FreeWarranty.com overcomes the cost barrier and sales pitch to provide extended warranties for free on select products purchased through retail partner sites. In the week between launching and Cyber Monday, more than 10,000 shoppers joined the site. Membership has since doubled -- more than 20,000 users now take advantage of the site's comparison shopping and free purchase protection.

Shoppers who visit FreeWarranty.com can search for specific items or browse product categories. They can compare prices from the participating retailers -- listed from lowest to highest -- along with reviews of the products and stores.

Shoppers then click through from FreeWarranty.com to buy the item from the retailer they choose.

Once the order is completed, FreeWarranty.com sends the shopper an email to register their free extended warranty within 30 days.

After registration, the warranty remains on the shopper's FreeWarranty.com account for easy tracking and one-click access to redeem. There's no need to hunt for receipts, UPC codes or warranty paperwork.

FreeWarranty.com's survey, conducted in an online omnibus by ORC International, polled 1,005 American adults December 8-11, 2011.
