The brand new Sunsail 444 represents South African Robertson and Caine's latest innovative developments with modern features not yet seen on production catamarans, while remaining committed to the tried and tested features that have made this line one on the most sought after brands of catamarans globally.
"You expect voluminous accommodations on a catamaran of this size, and the 444 does not disappoint," says Peter Nielsen of SAIL Magazine (Nielsen, 2011). The most significant modification on the Sunsail 444 is the addition of the open forward cockpit with direct access from the saloon. Unique to production catamarans, this feature offers increased visibility, ventilation, and a significant new approach on adding increased living space in an ergonomic and safe design feature. "The designers managed to make this addition without sacrificing internal volume by pushing the bridgedeck forward a little and shortening the bow trampoline," Peter explains (Nielsen, 2011).
This lounging area has a fixed overhead bimini for protection against the elements, forward door for direct access to saloon, splash cover, and drain. Furthermore, the forward door combined with large portlights in the windscreen allow for through ventilation in the saloon, even during a tropical downpour, where the forward bimini prevents water entry. Peter also commented (Nielsen, 2011) "below are four double cabins each with its own en suite heads and showers, this makes for a luxurious sailing experience."
