(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 12/21/11 -- At the 2nd edition of the Mining Film Festival, the Festival's directors, together with the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM-ICM) highlighted the quality, perseverance and exceptional efforts of one of the industry's leaders in educating, inspiring, and raising public awareness of the importance of mining, minerals, and metals in our society, hence the name of the award: the CIM M4S.

The award was presented to Andre Lavoie, the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Quebec Mining Association (QMA) for his enthusiasm and passion for the industry, and in particular, his work with native communities, youth and media, and his concern for health and the environment.

The Festival's directors, and CIM's Executive Director awarded the CIM M4S plaque to John Vavrek, who has shown tremendous determination over the last 20 years to increasing the visibility of the mining industry's role in Quebec's economic development. This industry, comprising mines, foundries, refineries, drilling and exploration, research centers, contractors, and consultants generates more than 50,000 jobs and brings with it significant economic growth for larger urban centres.

With shipments worth $6.2B annually, this industry is adding to Quebec's growing global reputation for its diversity of metals and minerals, including gold, silver, copper, zinc, nickel, iron, titanium, asbestos, salt, graphite, silica, lime, niobium, and many others.

As Mr. Lavoie was absent from the awards ceremony, Mr. Dan Tolgyesi, CEO of the QMA, accepted the award on his behalf from CIM's Executive Director, Jean Vavrek. The plaque will be presented to Mr. Lavoie in the near future.

The Festival has finally warmly thanked MARKETWIRE, a partner in the first hour for its worthy support and the direction of the Cinema du Parc in Montreal which has facilitated the presentation of this second edition of the Festival. IDNR-TV hopes to be able to present on this screen in 2012 "The Summit of the depths" which proved to be the highlight of the Festival.
