World Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer Sri Mulyani Indrawati to visit Rwanda
World Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer Sri Mulyani Indrawati arrives in Kigali on May 13, 2015 for a three-day visit to deepen the Government of Rwanda and the Bank Group partnership in fighting poverty.
During her visit, Sri Mulyani will meet with President Paul Kagame and other senior government officials. She will also visit some World Bank Group funded projects and interact with project beneficiaries. Later, the Managing Director will meet with representatives of the private sector and young entrepreneurs to learn about opportunities and challenges facing private sector development in Rwanda.
The World Bank Group portfolio in Rwanda currently comprises of thirteen national and six regional active projects with net commitments of $751 million. Project objectives have ranged from helping farmers manage marshland and hillside cropping to rehabilitating water supply systems and providing electricity to rural households. Key sectors funded include: agriculture (36 percent); energy (18 percent); social protection (19 percent); governance (14 percent); transport and ICT (6) percent; and capacity building/skills development (4 percent).
Ms. Indrawati joined the World Bank in June 2010. Previously she served as Indonesia?s minister of finance in addition to being the coordinating minister of economic affairs. She led the Indonesian National Development Planning Agency prior to her position as Finance Minister. Her earlier positions include Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund, faculty member at the University of Indonesia and Visiting Professor at the Andrew Young School of Public Policy at Georgia State University. Ms. Indrawati holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois and a B.A. in economics from the University of Indonesia.
