Sikafo Announces: Early Test Results
Sikafo prepares for full scale production on its Ofin River Range. After flooding subsided at its Ofin River properties, Sikafo management has set the stage for full scale production to commence in mid-February 2012. Test results conducted this fall, just prior to the Ghana’s last rain period, showed an average result of 2.2 grams per ton. These test results, if consistent throughout the entire Ofin property would put Sikafo on pace to collect 12,000 plus ounces in the next 2-4 months.
Record rainfall in Ghana in 2011 forced many mines to close or postpone mining operations. Sikafo however was fortunate that its efforts to pioneer roads and build its infrastructure were mostly unaffected by the rains and flooding. Sikafo’s COO Joseph Maher praised his development team which is led by Director of Logistics, “Vikki” Sittapalam. “Vikki and his team have prevailed against the waters with a minimum loss of time.” After inspection of the access roads and of the site, Maher declared that “we are ready to roll”. Sikafo management is eager to begin production at the Ofin as soon as possible in order to maximize production. Early test results from the sites at the Ofin have been outstanding. With gold currently trading near $1,700 per ounce, it is possible to be profitable at one gram of gold per ton due to the ease of the alluvial mining process. At over 2 plus grams per ton Maher and his team are really excited to start production at their second site.
After production begins at the Ofin, Sikafo will develop its’ “new-mining model” at its’ massive Anwona concession. Alluvial production at the Anwona is expected to deliver revenue in the hundreds of millions, while its’ hard rock reserves are being identified. In addition to its’ initial tests, expectations for sizeable hard rock deposits at the Anwona are bolstered by its’ location directly beside industry giant, AngloGold Ashanti.
