Sky Bet Golf Betting Update: Tiger 5/1 for Masters Victory
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 04/05/12 -- Tiger Woods is 5/1 favourite in Sky Bet's US Masters to win his first Major title since 2008 and deny Rory McIlroy a chance of redemption at Augusta.
McIlroy (13/2) threw away a four-shot lead on the last day of the event last year after dominating from the opening round and will be desperate to banish those memories this time.
Woods, who was 10/1 at the start of the year, has been backed heavily by punters in the run-up to this tournament and his price came in again from 7/1 after he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month.
Three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson is available at 12/1 to secure the fifth Major of his career, but a host of English golfers are tipped to perform this weekend.
World number one Luke Donald is 12/1 to win his first green jacket, compatriot Lee Westwood is 18/1 and in-form Justin Rose (22/1 from 50/1) is attracting plenty of attention from punters after winning the WGC-Cadillac Championship.
The online betting company is also offering a special on any Englishman to be victorious, with their 'What If.... The English Master Augusta' market, which is available at 6/1.
Sky Bet golf trader John Rhodes believes that it could be anybody's tournament to win.
He said: "McIlroy will be aiming to banish last year's final day meltdown and go one better, but there are so many top names who could win this weekend.
"Tiger is hitting form at the right time, Mickelson has experience of pressure in the big tournaments and is always in contention at Augusta and British duo Luke Donald and Lee Westwood could win their first Major at any point."
