FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALUMIFUEL POWER DELIVERS THE PBIS-2000 TO U.S. AIR FORCE
Delivery Sets the Stage for Marketing PBIS Systems Outside of North America
CENTENNIAL, Colorado, 19 April 2012. - AlumiFuel Power International, Inc.
('AlumiFuel International') (Deutsche Börse Frankfurt Stock Exchange
'9AP'), announced today that its technology development arm ('the Company')
has shipped the PBIS-2000 Portable Balloon Inflation System to the U.S. Air
Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) under contract. A team of the
Company's engineers will conduct training at the customer's site this week.
The PBIS-2000 generates sufficient hydrogen to inflate and launch a 200g
weather balloon with a 1400g payload package in 20 minutes. This new
system showcases the latest lift gas technology developed by the Company,
including operations at low temperatures and ambient pressure (below 70
kPa) so that the user never has to deal with a high pressure system such as
the industry standard K-Cylinder (15,600 kPa). The unit represents a unique
integration of mechanical, chemical, fluid, gas, and air design components
- including coded stainless steel pressure vessels - housed in a ruggedized
polypropylene case. It has the capability to use up to six AlumiFuel
cartridges per launch depending on the launch time requirements and balloon
size.
The Air Force customer has operational plans for this first PBIS-2000 unit
following the on-site training session by Company engineers. After this
field testing by Air Force personnel, the Company anticipates that the
customer will purchase additional units for operations around the globe.
Moreover, The Company has been approached by other military and
meteorological users from the US, NATO, and around the world interested in
the Portable Balloon Inflation System technology and products.
The PBIS-2000 expands the capability of the Company's current family of
hydrogen generators, which also includes the PBIS-1000 (for 100g balloons)
and the PBIS-200 (designed for 30g pilot balloons). After purchasing any
unit of the PBIS family, typical customers continue to purchase replacement
cartridges to launch up to 700 balloons per unit each year (up to 4,200
cartridges).
The current weather balloon lift gas market is pegged at EUR150 million per
year, and encompasses military as well as civil government meteorological
users worldwide. Traditionally, helium has been used as the primary lift
gas for weather balloons, but with the increasing scarcity and cost of
helium, users are rapidly switching to hydrogen and the Company's PBIS
family is far more mobile, safe, and cost effective than other on-site
hydrogen generation systems. AlumiFuel International plans to aggressively
market PBIS products in Europe and other regions outside of North America.
The Company's Chief Technology Officer, Mr. John Boyle, said: 'Completion
of this first PBIS-2000 unit represents a major milestone for the Company,
and we are excited about meeting the stringent mission requirements of Air
Force Special Operations users. Since weather balloons are typically
launched in remote locations, the cost and difficulty of transporting the
source of lift gas is a problem for many users. The PBIS family will
drastically reduce these factors, enabling launches in previously
inaccessible areas worldwide. We are confident that AlumiFuel International
will be highly successful in penetrating global markets with these PBIS
products.'
