(Denmark) Denmark's best examples of energy saving and environmentally friendly
IT solutions were awarded at DANSK IT's annual meeting last week. Atea was
recognized with this year's strategy award for the company's long-term oriented
and comprehensive Green IT strategy.
Atea's IT strategy, which has been named "One Infrastructure", includes video
conferencing at three different levels and virtualization of employee PCs and
servers. The video conferencing solution connects telepresence systems, video
systems in conference rooms and PC-based video meeting clients together in one
single unified infrastructure. The solution reduces travelling between the
company's seven offices, the employees' homes and workplaces and to its
customers. Virtualization of employee PCs extends the PCs lifespan and reduces
the need for hardware supplies. About 95% of Atea's servers are virtualized,
resulting in increased capacity utilization and thus efficiency.
"The award winners are excellent examples of how climate improvements and
savings often accompany each other when talking about Green IT. The winners also
show the way of how innovative, green technologies can help to restructure our
society into a green growth economy," says the Danish climate minister Martin
Lidegaard.
Denmark's Green IT Awards are handed out in cooperation between The Danish
Agency for Digisation (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen), The Danish IT Industry
Association (IT-Branchen) and DANSK IT, and was this year handed out for the
fourth time. The other nominees for the strategy award were Medcom and Aalborg
Municipality.
"Atea is very pleased to receive the strategy award within Green IT. We have a
strong commitment throughout the organization for our green line and has long-
term goals of our environmental work. One Infrastructure is one of our
initiatives in our overall strategy plan "Together Towards The Top", and we are
pleased to see that the IT industry recognizes the strategy as both a
professional, profitable and Green IT strategy," says Claus Hougesen, CEO in
Atea.
