David Barnes Recognized for Stand-Out IT Innovation and Leadership

(firmenpresse) - FRAMINGHAM, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/23/12 -- The Enterprise CIO Forum (ECF) (), an exclusive membership-based community site for global senior IT executives driving business transformation, announces David Barnes, Senior Vice President and CIO, UPS, as the latest Transformational CIO Award winner. This award program recognizes one CIO each month who has demonstrated clear and tangible leadership qualities in the strategic use of IT to transform his/her organization and the business processes within it.

In his current role as Senior Vice President and CIO at UPS, Barnes is responsible for all aspects of UPS technology, which is used to serve more than 220 countries and territories around the globe. He also chairs the UPS Information Technology Governance Committee and is responsible for the direction of UPS technology investments.

Barnes has a deep understanding of all facets of the company and industry trends, having spent his entire professional life at UPS. His first job with UPS was in 1977, when he worked as a part-time package loader. Since then, he has moved up through various positions during UPS' expansion programs in the 1980s and 1990s, including responsibilities for international systems supporting the global rollout of UPS services.

Barnes' current challenge at UPS includes continuing a laser-like focus on aligning all IT efforts with measureable business outcomes. He will also oversee an expansion of UPS's mobility resources, and spearhead efforts in harnessing and leveraging big data to accelerate revenue growth, improve customer satisfaction and operating efficiencies.
