(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 10/01/12 -- APICS The Association for Operations Management and the APICS Educational and Research Foundation today announced a fund in memory of author, educator, practitioner, and APICS volunteer J.R. Tony Arnold, CFPIM, CIRM, who passed away September 21, 2012.

The APICS Board of Directors is deeply saddened by the passing of J.R. Tony Arnold. Arnold's contributions to APICS and the entire supply chain and operations management community are immeasurable and enduring. To honor his memory the APICS Board has authorized establishment of a fund in the name of Tony Arnold with the APICS E&R Foundation. APICS has committed initial funding of $250,000 to the fund.

Arnold authored "Introduction to Materials Management," one of the preeminent textbooks in the supply chain and operations management field. In addition, he contributed greatly to the APICS "Basics of Supply Chain Management" course and the "Fundamentals of Materials and Operations Management" series.

"Tony's contributions to supply chain and operations management cannot be overstated and are evident in the more than 97,000 APICS CPIM designees around the world and the countless individuals who have participated in APICS Fundamentals and Principles courses," said APICS Board of Directors chair, Marc Harris, CPIM, CSCP. "We are hopeful that, through this fund, Tony's legacy of excellence will live on for years to come."

Throughout his long career and involvement in APICS, Arnold gave tirelessly of his time and talent to introduce many young minds to the APICS body of knowledge as professor and mentor to his students at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario.

"Tony was a good friend, mentor and valued colleague for many years," said "Introduction to Materials Management" coauthor Lloyd Clive, CFPIM. "His knowledge and many accomplishments, and his commitment to the success of his peers -- including myself -- creates a strong foundation for APICS to build on with this fund."
