Veidekke awarded further contracts on new E18

Veidekke Entreprenad AB has been awarded further contracts from the Swedish
Transport Administration (Trafikverket) for the new E18 motorway, Stockholm's
western approach road. The assignment is a general contract with a value of
approx. SEK 300 million.
The contract comprises the redevelopment of approx. 1.8 km of the existing E18,
and three bridges with associated cover on the Hjulsta - Spångadalen stretch.
The assignment will require extensive preparatory sheet piling work.
The contract also comprises portals, noise barriers and parts of the lighting
facility.
The existing stretch of road currently experiences a high accident rate and the
low capacity of the road causes long queues to form during rush hour. The
traffic solution that the new E18 will provide, with intersections at separate
levels, will reduce the number of accidents considerably. The noise situation
will also be improved, both for those who live along the road and at
Järvafältet, partly because the new lanes will be positioned further from
buildings than the current road, and partly because the new lanes will be lower
than the current road.
"Once again we have gained the confidence of Trafikverket in connection with the
redevelopment of the E18 road. This is of course gratifying and proof that our
cooperation with Trafikverket works well. It is also satisfying to work on a
road improvement project that will simplify and improve communications for those
who use the E18 regularly, both private motorists and goods traffic," says Göran
Domås, Works manager at Anläggning Öst.
Work starts in May 2010 and will be finished during the winter/spring of 2015.
