Specifically developed for use in heavy duty applications
Absolute encoder with SIL 3 certification

(firmenpresse) - At this year’s SPS/IPC Drives, Johannes Huebner Giessen is set to present to the industry and public two new absolute encoders with SIL certification. Specifically developed for heavy industry, the AMP(H) 41 (Profibus) and AMPN(H) 41 (Profinet) are certified to Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 in accordance with German industry standard DIN EN 61508 and to EN ISO 13849-1 up to performance level (PL) “e” .
As of spring 2013, these encoders will be available in two versions: AMP 41 or AMPN 41 with a solid shaft (14 mm in diameter) for mounting the encoder using a coupling, and the AMPH 41 or AMPNH 41 with a continuous hollow shaft (20 mm in diameter) for direct mounting of the encoder on the drive shaft. The Profisafe protocol is used for data transfer with devices with the Profibus as well as with the Profinet interface. Total capacity is 28 bits, of which 13 bits are singleturn resolution (8 192 steps) and 15 bits are multiturn resolution (32 768 revolutions). An additional incremental output provides a pulse rate of 4096.
Robust and reliable: Ideal for applications in heavy industry
“In heavy industry, high-performance components and durable construction mustn’t be mutually exclusive,” explains Frank Tscherney, Member of the Board. The new encoder was specifically developed and is particularly suitable for use in heavy industry, such as in steelworks and rolling mills, in mining, in ports and crane systems, and generally in applications where operating and ambient conditions are extreme.
The encoder is the perfect measuring device for heavy duty applications due to features such as an aluminium casing with considerable wall thickness, large ball bearings with high dynamic load ratings and an interior that is enclosed even when the terminal box is open. In addition to this, all devices are equipped with secured bolted connections to protect against vibration and feather keys for form-fit shaft connections. When mounted using a hollow shaft, the long, robust torque arm increases signal quality. The protection classes available – up to IP 66 / IP 67 – and the materials used mean these new absolute encoders are also suitable for use in saline environments.
