(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/04/13 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, and the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today released the following statement about the latest meeting of the (CCRS), where resilience-related issues were discussed:

"On Friday, I met with the Cross-Cultural Roundtable on Security and Canadian officials to focus on how our Government can strive to make our country safer and stronger," said Minister Nicholson. "Supporting individual preparedness and engaging with members of our communities enhances the resilience of our society as a whole."

"CCRS members considered different approaches to building resilience in responding to crises and adversity, both in communities and amongst vulnerable segments of the population," said Minister Toews. "Through successful meetings such as these, the CCRS has demonstrated the important role it plays in advising our Government on the impact of national security matters on Canada's diverse society."

The CCRS provides a forum for prominent members from a number of Canada's cultural communities to meet with officials from Canadian government departments and agencies, in order to discuss policy and program issues related to national security. The CCRS also helps build understanding between Government and communities, and to identify any issues of shared concern. Together, the CCRS and the Government are building valuable relationships founded on trust and respect.

Our Government remains focused on the safety of our streets and communities, identified as one of our Government's four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister.
