Schoeneck Receives Award for His Commitment to PRSA's Mission, Standards, and Principles of Ethics

(firmenpresse) - MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- (Marketwire) -- 03/22/13 -- -- The Minnesota chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) recognized David L. Schoeneck, APR, with the Donald G. Padilla Distinguished Practitioner award at the 35th annual Minnesota PRSA Classics Awards banquet, held last night at The Metropolitan Ballroom in Golden Valley, Minn. Created in 1996 to honor the late public relations pioneer Donald G. Padilla, the award salutes an individual who is judged to have made selfless contributions to the community and who has demonstrated exceptional professional achievement.
"David Schoeneck has advanced the mission of PRSA by sharing his expertise and leadership with Minnesota PRSA, the Midwest District and the national organization," said Tracy Carlson, APR, president of Minnesota PRSA. "It's an honor to give the Donald G. Padilla Distinguished Practitioner Award to such a deserving recipient."
For more than a decade, Schoeneck has served as an on-call volunteer in disaster public affairs for the Twin Cities chapter of American Red Cross, where he responds to local emergencies, communicates with the media and tells the Red Cross story. He was recently named as the external relations lead for the Twin Cities chapter. On larger scale disasters, Schoeneck provides on-site media relations and documents the stories of Red Cross clients and volunteers. In addition to responding to local disasters, Schoeneck has also been deployed for public affairs and governmental liaison support by the American Red Cross for Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy.
Prior to volunteering for the American Red Cross, Schoeneck spent most of his career as a corporate communications executive. He worked for nine years as the director of public relations for Graco Inc., and helped enhance that firm's reputation as a leader in corporate responsibility. Schoeneck has also served as the public relations manager at Fargo Electronics and the director of public relations at National Car Rental System. He now serves as president of a strategic communications consulting practice, The Praxis Group, located in West Saint Paul, Minn.
Schoeneck has been a member of PRSA (and the Minnesota chapter of PRSA) for 37 years. He earned his accreditation in public relations (APR) in 1977. Schoeneck has committed his time and talents in key leadership roles in the Minnesota Chapter, the Midwest District and National levels, serving three terms as a member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Chapter of PRSA, including one term as chapter president in 1990.
Chartered in 1949, Minnesota PRSA is the ninth largest chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the world's largest organization for public relations professionals with nearly 32,000 professional and student members. PRSA is organized into 112 nationwide, including 14 that focus on specific industries and practice areas.
