200,000 have BankID on their mobile
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
(Fornebu, 18 June 2013) More than 200,000 mobile users now have BankID on their
mobile phones. They are therefore no longer dependent on the pin pad when it
comes to paying bills or shopping online.
"Customers appreciate a pin pad free BankID. It's gratifying that most of the
banks and mobile operators will offer the service by the end of 2013 so that
anyone who wants to use it can," says Odd Erling Håberget, managing director of
BankID Norge.
Telenor advantage
"A mobile phone BankID is one of the most useful products we offer. It really
simplifies day-to-day life for Telenor customers, and during the course of the
last year - from May 2012 - the number of users doubled from 100,000 to
200,000," said CEO of Telenor Norway, Berit Svendsen, who is very pleased that
so many people want a "mobile phone pin pad".
"Usage figures are proving how useful it is: every single mobile BankID customer
used the service on an average of 11.7 times during May this year. Many people
are surprised by how simple and helpful the service is when they first start
using it," says Svendsen.
The advantages of mobile BankID:
* You avoid having to carry your pin pad around with you in case you need to
log on to your online banking or want to shop online. You always have your
mobile phone with you, while the pin pad is often at home when you need it.
* When shopping online, you can pay by card and confirm the purchase using
your mobile phone BankID.
Who can get a mobile BankID?
Anyone who has a mobile subscription with Telenor, djuice, Talkmore, Hello
Norway, Phonero, Telipol, or Dipper - and is a customer of DnB, Skandiabanken,
Eika, Nordea, or Sparebank1 can order a mobile BankID via their online banking
service. The majority of handsets are compatible. Several operators and banks
are in the process of launching the service.
Secure solution
The BankID is stored on the mobile's SIM card. You use your mobile number, date
of birth, and a self-selected PIN code to gain access to your banking services.
If you keep your PIN code secret, no one else can gain access to your banking
services if you lend your phone to someone.
It is also not a problem if you change handset since the BankID is stored on the
SIM card. However, if you change SIM card, you must re-register for a mobile
BankID.
