„self-sufficient “, new installation by Kurt Fleckenstein
Kurt Fleckenstein Installation in Kiev Lavra Gallery (firmenpresse) - German artist Kurt Fleckenstein has prepared a new exhibition in Lavra Gallery in Kiev. The town gallery is located in close proximity to Lavra, the Kiev Cave Monastery (Ucraine). The exhibition venue, a former storehouse was built around the turn of the century and has got a fantastic ceiling construction with wooden beams span in a wide arch under the sloping roof. When Fleckenstein saw this construction it became obvious to him, so he wanted to do his latest exhibition here.His installation should refer exactly to the construction.
The installation is a play between reality and illusion, an alienation of a real situation, a reflection of an objective construction on a transparent image plane. He titled his installation “self-sufficient” that means the variation of only the construction is sufficient to give a new touch to the exhibition room. Construction x 2, not more or less.
Forty transparent 1 mm thin width of plastic(plastic stripes), 2 meters wide and three meters long are hanging at the lower beams of the supporting structure. On those is printed a reflection of the ceiling construction. Five constructions and five reflections give the effect of the shades of the real construction, which mingle with the shades of the printed plastic so that reality appears in dissolution.
The visitor is challenged to view the installation almost as during a walk, to experience new impressions and perspectives again and again. And that is very possible, as the exhibition room is almost 600 square meters.
