Dettingen/Erms, September 24, 2013 +++ The Swiss exhaust specialist Hug,
in which ElringKlinger AG holds a majority stake, now supplies exhaust
purification systems for the United States Postal Service. Nearly 400
vehicles operated by U.S. Mail in California are being fitted with diesel
particulate filters equipped with catalytic soot burn-off technology that
also reduces levels of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. The first
deliveries of Hug's filter systems are already under way via the automotive
retail sector.
The U.S. retrofitting market, served by mobiclean R TM diesel particulate
filter systems, has become an important source of revenue for the Hug
Group. In California, Hug can now boast a share of over 30% in the
retrofitting market for buses and trucks. Sales of the diesel particulate
filters in North America were given a major boost at the beginning of this
year when the CARB (California Air Resources Board) approved the systems
for retrofitting buses and trucks weighing over 6.34 metric tons.
The Swiss Hug Group's main focus is on exhaust purification systems for
trucks and other commercial vehicles, the shipping industry and stationary
oil- and natural-gas-fired power stations. The company develops and
produces all the main components in-house, e.g. the ceramic substrates for
catalysts, diesel particulate filters and DeNOx systems, as well as the
catalytic coating and the housings.
In 2012, the Hug Group achieved total sales revenue of EUR 36.6 million,
although EBIT (earnings before interest and tax) remained in negative
territory at minus EUR 3.0 million. After a turnaround in the first quarter
of 2013, not to mention the restructuring of production and a series of new
projects, the company expects sales to rise to over EUR 45 million with
EBIT in excess of EUR 7 million.
