Legion Poppy Campaign Only One Week Away!
Poppy Campaign launches October 25

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/18/13 -- More than 18 million poppies have been distributed to our Legion branches and are ready to be offered to the Canadian public starting on the last Friday in the month of October. This year the Poppy campaign will start on 25 October 2013.
"Last year, through the generosity of Canadians and the Legion's Poppy Campaign more than $14 million dollars were provided for Veterans and their families in need," says Gordon Moore, Dominion President of The Royal Canadian Legion. "This generosity has helped pay for special equipment such as wheelchairs, home improvements to accommodate injured Veterans, and school bursaries for children of Veterans," said Moore. "We hope that last year's generosity will be matched, if not exceeded again this year," adds Moore.
Legion branches across Canada are abuzz with activity making final preparations to launch their local Poppy Campaigns. Volunteers are being scheduled, Poppy boxes are making their way into businesses and stores, and Legionnaires are reaching out to schools to plan presentations. Why not call your local Legion and find out just how much work goes into making the Poppy Campaign the greatest ongoing tribute to all Canada's Veterans.
Since 1921, the Poppy has stood as the Symbol of Remembrance, a visual pledge to never forget those Canadians who have fallen in war and military support operations. The Poppy also stands internationally as a "symbol of collective reminiscence", as other countries have also adopted its image to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
