Legion Winners of Poster and Literary Contests and Top Cadets Will Attend Remembrance Day Ceremony

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/04/13 -- Each year The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) holds national Literary and Poster Contests for students in schools across Canada. The senior winners in each of the four categories will attend the National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa on November 11th, 2013 as representatives of Canada's youth. Also, each year the Sea, Army and Air cadet leagues chose their respective top cadet and they are sponsored by the Legion to act as wreath bearers for this Ceremony. For 2013, Youth and Cadet representatives are:

Youth Representatives

Senior Colour Poster

Ms. Ginny Hsiang is the winner of the Senior Colour Poster category. She is originally from Taipei, Taiwan and later immigrated to Canada and currently lives in Surrey, B.C., where she attends R.E. Mountain Secondary School. Her winning poster was sponsored by the Legion Branch #21 in Langley, B.C. She enjoys sketching, listening to music and criminology to name a few.

Senior Black and White Poster

Mr. Owen Brown is from Guelph, ON., and is the winner of the Senior Black and White Poster category. He is a high school student at Koinonia Christian Academy, in Guelph ON. He likes playing and making music, expanding his artistic abilities and spending time with the people he loves. His winning poster was sponsored by Legion Branch # 530 in Waterloo, ON.

Senior Essay

Ms. Daniela Gallardo is from Dieppe, N.B. and is the winner of the Senior Essay category. She is currently attending Bernice MacNaughton High School in Moncton, N.B. and was sponsored by Legion Branch# 6 in Moncton, N.B. She enjoys reading, playing soccer, swimming, history and travelling.

Senior Poetry

Ms. Katelyn Hogan is the winner in the Senior Poetry category. She is from Northern Bay, N.L., and was sponsored by Legion Branch #23 in Carbonear, NL. She is currently attending Memorial University, St. John's NL and studying process engineering. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps for six years. Her hobbies include swimming, running and ball hockey.





The Royal Canadian Legion Cadets of the Year

Sea Cadet

Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Lindsay Kehoe is a member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 235 Arrow located in Arichat, NS. She participated in her Corps' musical band throughout her Cadet career. She is currently studying at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. Her hobbies include sailing, volleyball, softball and distance running to name but a few.

Army Cadet

Cadet Chief Warrant Officer Srosh Hassan is a member of the 2551 Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Army Cadets in Edmonton, AB. She received the General Walsh Memorial Sword for being Canada's outstanding Army Cadet in 2013. As a Cadet, Srosh attended the National Army Cadet Summer Training Centre Connaught in Ottawa, ON and has become a superb Marksman. She is currently studying at Old Scona Academic School in Edmonton, AB. Her hobbies include speech, debate and marksmanship.

Air Cadet

Warrant Officer 2nd Class Rachele Paquet is a member of 34 Roland J. Groome, Royal Canadian Air Cadets in Regina, Saskatchewan. Rachele is currently studying at the University of Ottawa, ON and majoring in Communications. Her hobbies include participating in youth parliaments across the country and she plays on the University of Ottawa Quidditch Team.
