(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/06/13 -- As leading advocates for responsible and sustainable homeownership, Realtors® work tirelessly to ensure the American Dream of homeownership remains alive and well. That commitment was evident today as Realtors® joined forces with Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco to help construct a multifamily housing development for low-income families in the San Francisco area.

Approximately 75 Realtors® volunteered their time and labor alongside AmeriCorps members and community volunteers at a new multifamily unit, called Habitat Terrace, in San Francisco's Oceanview, Merced, Ingleside neighborhood. Habitat Terrace will be home to 28 hard-working families when completed in 2015. The volunteer build is in conjunction with the , which takes place this week in San Francisco. Approximately 22,000 Realtors® and guests are expected to attend.

"Realtors® work hard to help individuals and families realize the dream of homeownership," said National Association of Realtors® President , broker-owner of Evergreen Realty, in Villa Park, Calif. "Realtors® who are volunteering their time and effort today are not only helping San Francisco residents achieve their dreams, but also are helping increase awareness about the benefits of affordable housing. We are extremely honored to work with Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco and feel privileged to be able to give back to the community."

Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco Executive Director Phillip Kilbridge also thanked the Realtor® volunteers, who worked on framing homes for future Habitat homeowners. "We are grateful to the more than 75 Realtors® who are joining us from around the world to build at Habitat Terrace during NAR's annual conference. Their efforts will help make homeownership a reality for 28 hard-working families," he said. "Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco has already built eight homes in the Oceanview, Merced, Ingleside (OMI) neighborhood where Habitat Terrace is located; we are thrilled to be back in the OMI neighborhood partnering with the broader community on this inventive solution to our area's expensive real estate challenges."
