Harper Government Honours Canada's Fallen Police and Peace Officers

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/28/14 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement today to mark the Canadian Police and Peace Officers' 37th Annual Memorial Service.
"It is with deep gratitude that - on behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians -I pay tribute to the Canadian police and peace officers whose profound commitment to the safety and wellbeing of their fellow Canadians led them to make the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives.
As Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, I am very proud of the work of Canadian police and peace officers. They carry out their duties with pride and professionalism. They enforce our laws, protect lives, maintain order and protect our borders, amongst many other essential responsibilities.
The tragic event that occurred in Moncton, and other events this year, remind us of the risks our officers face while carrying out their duties. These events highlight the importance of their work and of us all taking the time to honour fallen officers. This year, nine names were added to the Honour Roll on Parliament Hill; their courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten. To the families and colleagues who now suffer the incredible loss of a loved one, we offer our thoughts and prayers.
To Canadian police and peace officers across the country and serving in countries abroad, we express our deep gratitude for your dedication."
