Media Advisory: Governor General to Present Vanier Medal

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 12/15/14 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will present the 2014 Vanier Medal to Lynton "Red" Wilson, retired chair, president and CEO of BCE Inc., and chancellor emeritus of McMaster University. The ceremony will be held at Rideau Hall on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at 10 a.m.

On this occasion, His Excellency will recognize and honour Mr. Wilson for his contributions to Canadian public service, which have had a lasting and positive influence on the lives of many Canadians. Considered a role model by his peers, Mr. Wilson is among Canada's most respected business leaders. For the last five decades, he has also been a leader in Canada's public service and voluntary sector.

About the Vanier Medal

The Vanier Medal, managed by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC), is one of the highest forms of recognition for Canadian public administrators. It was created in 1962, in honour of then-Governor General the Right Honourable Georges P. Vanier. The medal is awarded annually to a person who has made significant contributions to and has shown distinctive leadership in the fields of public administration and public service in Canada.
