(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 07/20/11 --

As part of a nationwide bus tour, the National Association of Realtors® will stop in Memphis this weekend. NAR 2011 President-elect Moe Veissi and NAR Past President Martin Edwards will be available to speak to the media on Friday about how national real estate issues could impact the lives of Memphis residents.

If regulators get their way, many qualified home buyers may be shut out of the market very soon. The Department of Housing and Urban Development, along with five other agencies, is considering a rule that would require most borrowers to come up with a 20-percent down payment.

In addition, the National Flood Insurance Program is set to expire on September 30, 2011. NFIP is responsible for writing and renewing flood insurance policies for more than 5.6 million home and business owners in 20,000 communities across the country. NAR is pushing Congress for longer term reauthorization of the program, as well as ensuring that pending reform efforts not hinder the NFIP's essential supporting role for home and commercial property ownership.

Members of the media are invited to learn about this and other potential public policy changes and how they may affect families and communities in and around Memphis. Refreshments will be served.

Ongoing news and information about the tour are posted at .

The National Association of Realtors®, "The Voice for Real Estate," is America's largest trade association, representing 1.1 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
