Guilty Verdicts in Terrorism Trial

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 03/20/15 -- In Ontario Superior Court today, a jury found Chiheb Esseghaier, 32, and Raed Jaser, 37, guilty of terrorism charges, including conspiring to murder persons unknown for the benefit of a terrorist group, contrary to s. 83.2 of the Criminal Code. This offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Chiheb Esseghaier was also found guilty of conspiring to interfere with transportation facilities for the benefit of a terrorist group. This offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. He was found guilty of three counts of participating in the activities of a terrorist group, contrary to s. 83.18(1). Raed Jaser was found guilty of two counts under this section. These offences carry a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment. Sentencing will occur at a later date.
