Production restarting at the Naantali refinery following electrical supply
problems
Following a problem with the electricity supplied from the Finnish national grid
on the evening of Thursday, August 12 and the resulting shutdown of process
units at Neste Oil's Naantali refinery, fire broke out in two of the site's
units, but was quickly extinguished.
Preparations for restarting production are now under way, and it is anticipated
that refining at the site will return to normal within a couple of days when the
steam supply from an outside provider is restored. Some damage has been
identified in one of the refinery's units, and repairing this could take over a
week, however. Neste Oil currently estimates that the loss in production
resulting from the incident is likely to run into a few hundred thousand euros.
The incident will not have an impact on fuel deliveries supplied by the
refinery, with the exception of LPG, which will now be supplied from the Porvoo
refinery.
The fire did not cause any injuries to the site's personnel, and no oil or other
products leaked into the ground or were discharged into the sea.
