New and improved PSV design launched by Wärtsilä at Nor-Shipping exhibition
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade press release, 1 June 2015 at 12 noon EET
With new rules and regulations affecting the Platform Supply Vessel (PSV)
market, Wärtsilä is launching a new PSV ship design at this year's Nor-Shipping
exhibition being held in Oslo from June 2 to 5. The new design builds upon
Wärtsilä's extensive and successful track record within the PSV segment, and
puts the emphasis on increased cost efficiency, innovation and reducing
environmental risk.
The design enables significantly lower fuel consumption when compared to
existing PSV's on the market. The key improvement areas featured in this design
include an efficient energy system with batteries, and optimised hull lines with
high propeller efficiency. Other important features include an optimised
superstructure and engine room, and an accommodation arrangement that promotes
cost efficient construction. The design is in line with the future regulations
for up to 1200 m3 of type II chemicals, and has significantly improved
visibility from the bridge, reduced noise and vibration, and a main deck design
that optimises the deck cargo area.
"Wärtsilä ship designs consistently raise the bar for shipping in terms of
efficiency and sustainability, and this state-of-the-art PSV design is yet
another example of this. We are the leading ship designers of North Sea PSV's
and our designs reflect the company's extensive experience and capabilities,"
says Riku-Pekka Hägg, Vice President, Wärtsilä Ship Design.
More than 4000 vessels have been built using Wärtsilä ship designs. The
company's designs are always based upon meeting the operational requirements of
the vessel, and upon reducing the capital (CAPEX) and operational (OPEX) costs
while minimising environmental impact.
Further and more detailed information on this PSV and all Wärtsilä ship designs
is available at the Wärtsilä stand at Nor-Shipping in Hall D, Stand DO3-34&35.
