(Fornebu, 27 September 2010) The Telenor Culture Prize for 2010 is awarded to
the acknowledged Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.

Olafur Eliasson is awarded the prize of NOK 250,000 for his innovative artistic
concepts and his ability to communicate globally.  His art challenges and
captivates whether it is located in intimate spaces or in open communal spaces.

 Global format
"We congratulate Olafur Eliasson with the international Telenor Culture Prize
for 2010. Olafur Eliasson is an innovative and groundbreaking visual artist of
veritable international stature. We can therefore view his work in some of the
world's most recognized institutions and greatest galleries such as Museum of
Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. In Norway we can admire Olafur Eliasson's
decoration of the foyer in Norwegian National Opera and Ballet where the art is
an integrated part of the architecture, and appears as a block of ice or a
glacier ", says President and CEO of Telenor, Jon Fredrik Baksaas.

In its verdict the jury states among other things; "This year's prize winner can
be described as a multi-artist. In his creative works he engages with a broad
spectrum of visual expression - from painting and photography to installations
that can dominate and transform small intimate spaces as well as intervene in
sprawling urban cityscapes and wide open landscapes. His projects succeed. They
command attention. Critics and the public alike respond and applaud.  Having won
local and global acclaim, it is not surprising that he has been invited to
exhibit in some of the world's greatest galleries, including the Tate Modern in
London."

"I am honored and pleased to receive this prize which shows that Telenor has
great confidence in the potential of contemporary art", says Olafur Eliasson.
